If this is a strategy game, the team should not have control over Spank Power because it stops being a strategy game when account progression can be controlled by third parties (the team).
Account progression, i.e., the entire gamification, mainly relies on two points:
- Time spent – the more frequently someone claims moola and upgrades weapons, the more advantage they gain over other competitors. This is an advantage for those who have more time than capital (it can be compared to autocompounding on farms; the higher the frequency, the higher the APY someone can generate). This is an option for those who risk their time, not necessarily their capital. Thanks to these people, the chain generates a large number of transactions.
- Capital spent – the more NFTs someone buys, the less time they need to achieve higher Spank Power. This way, the person risks their capital, not necessarily their time.
For the above points to make sense and for players to compete, they must be sure that no one will block their ability to develop their account at a certain level, which you have done now, but was not present in v1. I’m not literally saying that you block account progression, because it can still progress, but rather the setting of a max Spank Power in the breadline, which means there’s no point in dedicating more time to account progression beyond your limits. This makes it so that players with better strategies are deprived of the feeling that they can be better than others and generate more yield (BGT and oBero).
I understand that you want to prevent a few players from dominating the entire breadline with their Spank Power over time, but setting a max Spank Power is not the solution because it eliminates all gamification. Those who want to risk their time and those who want to risk their capital to build an advantage over others will know that, in this case, it makes no sense and will not Spank, because they are unable to do so, as the team can control Spank Power however they want, with no established rules. If someone knows beforehand that they can’t be better than others, why should they compete?
What you can do to avoid disrupting gamification and make it harder to dominate the breadline by a few people, and thus farm BGT from them, is to set a limit on the number of Spanks in the breadline (e.g., 10-20). This way, everyone knows the rules regarding Spank Power (the bigger, the better) and knows that the team won’t change them during the season. The player knows from the start that they cannot have more than the specified number of Spanks in the breadline but also knows that they can compete with others based on Spank Power.
At this point, everyone, let’s say with 10 Spanks, starts with a max of 3.333% share in the breadline, and depending on how much time they dedicate or how much capital they invest in NFTs, they can increase their advantage if they have a better strategy than others (of course, simply owning a large number of NFTs doesn’t guarantee success, and they also need to dedicate time to the game and have the right strategy).
Additionally, by introducing seasons lasting 2-3 weeks, for example, you can prevent BGT farming domination by those who have been playing from the start, while allowing new people to join, seeing how profitable the people who dominated season 1 were. Nothing will be better marketing, both for Bullas and for PoL, than boasting about the results of people who were in the top ranking of a given season.
Bullas can become an interesting marketing product for PoL, but players must have clear rules of the game, not controlled by third parties (the team) during the season, so they have the possibility for gamification and know that no one can block them during the season (once they have dedicated their time or capital), knowing they have a better strategy than others.
Of course, as in every yield farming, not everyone will be profitable, and for one to profit, someone else must lose, at least in the short term if they weren’t in from the start of the season.
I have comments regarding the moola distribution from the previous season, which I believe should not have happened during the reset, but that’s not the topic of this discussion.
